An online sweepstakes with free entry usually asks for your name, email and date of birth, with a limit of one entry per person or one per day. These promotions rarely sell entries, so your entry usually counts the same as anyone else's. When a package code is involved, the fine print often offers a mail-in entry or a free code request, and it may have its own deadline.
The cost here is your data. Read what you're agreeing to, since many entry forms sign you up for marketing, and use a separate email address if you enter a lot of them. A no purchase necessary sweepstakes from a national brand can draw a very large number of entries, so your odds may be small. Check age limits and excluded states, and remember that the winner owes tax on the prize value.
